Staff Profile: Beata Sapeta

Beata Sapeta is one of two physical therapists in the Rehabilitation Department who sees Wellness Center members for 15-minute, no-cost injury assessments. Injury assessment is something the Center has been offering to members since early 2011. Members may make an appointment for an injury assessment through the Rehabilitation Department.

Beata began working at Monadnock Community Hospital in 2008, when she moved to the Monadnock region from Missouri. A native of Poland, she originally arrived in the United States in the year 2000. She received her Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from Missouri State University.

Beata is a Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist (COMT) with expertise in the spine. She is working on becoming certified in the extremities as well. As a specialty, COMT focuses on joint mobilization. Her COMT certification came through the International Academy of Orthopedic Medicine-U.S.

Beata says her advanced degrees help her quickly discern what might be wrong when a client comes into her office, and she can quite often provide a simple solution. Some clients, however, get referred to longer-term therapy, or to their doctors. “It makes me feel happy, when I know what’s wrong with them,” she said.

As a member of the Rehabilitation Department staff, Beata enjoys the opportunity she has to connect with the other hospital and Wellness Center professionals across all departments.

“It’s just awesome. I know all the primary care physicians. I know the orthopedic guys,” she says. “I can just go in the back door and ask them a question. That’s what’s great about being a small hospital. The staff is happier because we have access to everyone and all that expertise.”

Beata works with the “Summit Group” that includes the Rehab staff and Fitness staff in the Wellness Center. Together they exchange ideas on how to improve services to Wellness Center members, as well as the usual physical therapy clients. Talking together, the two staffs can determine what types of classes or services at the Wellness Center might help a physical therapy client once he or she has improved the original problem, and vice versa.

Beata is also now taking a number of the Wellness Center’s fitness classes for her own good, but also to make appropriate suggestions for her clients when they  may benefit from services the Wellness Center has to offer.
